Epiphone MB100 Banjo Reviews 5

This is the MB100 open back 5-string banjo made by Epiphone. There's no banjo section here, but hey it's new and this is a review! Open back means exactly what it says, there is no back on this banjo. That means it is a little quieter than a closed back banjo, but yet it keeps the cost down making it a great beginner or intermediate level instrument. Maybe you're a guitar player who wants to try something new? Perfect.

I saw this on the wall at my local Guitar Center. It was like a tractor beam from Heaven. The room lit up and I got a whiff of fresh air and cow manure! It was only $180 I though, hey I'll give it a shot.

The neck was thin and although narrow, the string spacing was decent enough for me to learn a few chords. The head of the banjo was outfitted with a white Remo head with is popular amongst drum sets and higher quality banjo. The instrument holds tune, has very playable action and there is no buzzing up and down the neck.

None that I can think of.

The body is mahogany, the neck is mahogany and the fretboard is rosewood. I praised the playability above.

The bottom line is Epiphone hit one out of the park making a great massed produced budget banjo.
